Hope you are having a good evening.  I am here to post my entry into the very talented Linda Ledbetter's latest challenge from the book, A Compendium of Curiosities by the creative Tim Holtz. This  challenge, entitled Eroded Metal, is generously sponsored by the folks over at Inspiration Emporium.  I can't describe the technique, so go grab your own copy of Tim's book, turn to page 44, and play along.

I used the technique as an opportunity to make my husband's Father's Day card...not easy sneaking around the house :)

I had to add a crown, because of course my husband is the king of the house...a least I let him think so :)

Loved using the technique and it gave me the chance to play with the new Tim's new Globe Thinlit Die.  I have to run.  It is nearly the bewitching hour.  Have a great weekend and thanks for stopping by :)

Back again to post a simple Thank You card I made for my husband to give for a gift he received.

  I just purchased the new Tim Holtz Mixed Media Thinlit Die and was looking for a reason to use it. I love how it worked with the Kraft Core Cardstock.  My background is made with Tissue Wrap Melange, Glue-n -Seal, and Cracked Pistachio and Pumice Stone Distress Ink. "Thanks" is cut out of Kraft Core Cardstock  using my Cricut. I think I have just enough time to link my card to Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge: Thank You and then off to bed.  Thanks for stopping by :) Kim

Tim Holtz 12 Tags of 2015-May

What a glorious Sunday morning!  May has passed in a whirlwind...with end of year school activities, Mother's day, graduation...  I was glad to be able to catch my breath yesterday and play with Tim's May tag. You can see Tim's tag and read his tutorial here.

Of course I had to improvise since I didn't have all of the products...but that in part is what makes it fun.  I made the base with a sheet of burlap adhered to a manila tag with watered down matte Mod Podge and Emporium ephemera secured with Glue-N-Seal  I used Wendy's Dots and Stripes Borders stencil with  Ranger Texture Paste to make my stripes and tinted them with Aged Mahogany Distress Ink.  I replaced the photo booth image with a photo of my Grandmother Kuhn on her Confirmation Day, age 14.  She led a hard life...both of her parents were dead by the time she was 17 years of age and she traveled alone from Germany to the USA to work as a housekeeper for her Uncle's family.  Through it all, she never lost her faith.

 I tinted her cheeks with Worn Lipstick Distress Marker and the roses with Wild Honey Distress Marker and used Remnant Rubs Botanical to round out the photo.  The edges were distressed and inked with Frayed Burlap Distress Ink.

I tinted the ribbon with Antique Linen, Frayed Burlap, and Walnut stain and I used the kraft Chit Chat Stickers for the sentiment.  Finally, I made the flowers using the Tiny Tattered Florals Die and Kraft Core paper as Tim instructed.

Finally, I spritzed Black Soot Distress Marker lightly over the tag.  That's all for today.  Thanks, for stopping by :)

Daisies are the happiest flowers...

I love daisies...not surprisingly the most bountiful flower in my garden.  They are so clean, bright and simple.

 I had to buy Wendy Vecchi's Darling Daisy SiSi and I am having so much fun playing with it. Here I used it for Tim's April tag  For this card, I used Picket Fence and Mowed Lawn Distress paint through the stencil on black cardstock.  I dabbed it to give the paint some texture and then, when dry, I stamped the image over the stencil image with Ranger's Jet Black Archival Ink.  The stamped imaged is slightly offset from the stenciled image but I like how it turned out.  The distress paint on the black gives a chalk-like appearance.  The background is made by stamping Jet Black Archival Ink through Tim's Tile Stencil.  I added a black/white paper ribbon bow.

CC3C # 28 Alcohol Ink Ombre

Hi all...thanks for stopping  by tonight.  I am back to share my entry for the Compendium of Curiosities Volume III Challenge # 28 based on the book of the same name by the talented Mr. Tim Holtz.  Linda Ledbetter is our gracious hostess and Linda Coughlin of

The Funkie Junkie Boutique is generously sponsoring this challenge (hop over to her site for a great sale this weekend).  The name of this challenge is Alcohol Ink Ombre and I love playing with alcohol inks.   I can't describe the step by step technique...but turn to page 57 in Tim's book to play along.  I love yellow so my choice of alcohol inks was easy:  Butterscotch, Sunshine, and Lemonade.

Once my background was complete, I wasn't sure where to go next.  The colors reminded me of a sunrise, so...I grabbed Tim's Rays stencil and used my newly purchased Ranger texture paste to create the sun's rays as described in Tim's 2015 March Tag tutorial.  I then covered the paste with gold embossing powder and let it completely dry prior to heat embossing.  I stamped the birds with  Jet Black Archival Ink.  I used the words from a familiar Beatles song to round out this encouragement card that will find it way to a certain someone at just the right time.

Happy Mothers Day

It was a wonderful day!  Breakfast by my oldest daughter, flowers and craft gift cards from my husband and a delicious dinner cooked by my two daughters.  We had the blessing of spending today with my Husband's Mom...unfortunately I will have to wail until next week to give my Mom the hug in person that I sent today over the phone lines.  I would like to share with you today the card I made for Mom.

Mom's favorite color is blue and I love Broken China Distress Ink so it was a no-brainer.  I started by using the Layered Stencil Embossing Technique that Tim Holtz described in Compendium of Curiosities Vol III...using  the oval cutout of the Embossing Diffuser to guide my inking.  The background was shaded with  Mowed Lawn, Salty Ocean and Broken China Distress Inks.  My small chipboard swirl was painted with Picket Fence Distress Paint and then covered with a coat of Clear Rock Candy Crackle.

 I adore the Tiny Tattered Florals Die.  My daughter commented that everything from here on out will have a flower just so I can play with those dies. (Probably true :)  I made the flowers in both blue and sea green and brushed the petals with Glue-N-Seal and sprinkled with Rock Candy Distress Glitter.  Here is another pic...

I finished off the card with a stamped sentiment and mounted it on a sea-green piece of card stock.  The house is quiet...my husband and one of my daughters is sleeping and the other daughter has escaped to the privacy of her room.. I am enjoying the peace after a busy but wonderful day. I am truly blessed.  Thanks for stopping by :)

CC3C #27 Embossing Diffusers

Just a quick post for my entry to the Compendium of Curiosities Challenge  hosted by the talented Linda Ledbetter.  Challenge #27 Embossing Diffusers can be found on page 61 of Tim Holtz's book by the same name.  The current challenge is sponsored by the generous folks over at Inspiration Emporium.  

My entry is a simple but elegant wedding card for a beloved niece whose wedding is this month.  I used the embossing diffuser as described to help create the focal point of the card.  I used an embossing folder and antique wedding cake stamp from  my stash.  After many trials, I finally settled on using clear embossing ink with a lightly glittered embossing powder on the cake. You can catch a glimpse of the glitter on the picture below. 

I recently received the Tiny Tatter Florals Thinlit Die and made three white roses to sit at the base of the cake stand. I lightly brushed the edges with Glue N seal and dusted them with Rock Candy Distress glitter. Finally, I stamped the "Mr. and Mrs." in Weather Wood and embossed it with the same glitter embossing powder that I had on hand. I attached the little place card with Gem Clip which I broke the gem off and re-glued to the front of the clip.
