Tim Holtz 12 Tags of 2014-October

Happy Halloween!!! Just wanted to take a minute to submit my October tag.  Since Fall is my favorite season and Halloween my favorite holiday, you would think I had a big stash of crafty things like stamps and stencils...WRONG.  I found that I do not own even one pumpkin stamp, That being said, I was going to skip this month's challenge when I got the idea for a tag and wanted to try the techniques that Tim highlighted this month. I loved using the masking technique with the texture paste.  I had to improvise on the masking material but I was pleased with how it came out.  I also liked the effect of the Glossy Accent on the stamped/water colored image...what a great way to make your own embellishments.

 This tag is for my daughter...to remind her that she should follow her dreams. She will meet up with many a naysayer throughout her life and she must believe in herself.  Thanks for stopping by :)

Star Light...Star Bright

I love Fall and all the holidays that take place during the season...Halloween, Thanksgiving. However, I bought a star stamp from Impression Obsession that I have been wanting to play with and Hels Sheridan at Ink on My Fingers Sunday Stamper inspired me with her Catch a Falling Star Challenge.  I know black and gold are not traditional Christmas colors...but here is my first Christmas card of the season.  I used the star and sentiment stamps from Impression Obsession and the gold paper and embossing powder are from my stash.  The background was created with Tim Holtz's Paint Marbling Technique with Black Soot and Tarnished Brass Distress Paint.

Now I think I will go carve a pumpkin or jump in a pile of leaves:)

CC3C #12 Distress Photo Tinting

Good evening...I am here to post my entry to The Compendium of Curiosities Challenge III  #12, Distress Photo Tinting based on the Tim Holtz book of the same name and hosted by the gracious Linda Ledbetter.    The Funkie Junkie Boutique is the sponsor of this challenge thanks to the generous Linda Coughlin.

So I am still working on my daughter's graduation album...and she graduated in 2013.  My entry is the back cover of the album.  I snapped this pic one day when I was coming down the stairs and saw my daughter's graduation gown hanging ready for the evening's ceremony.  I was never sure what I would do with photo. Although it is the symbol of the end of a high school career, it is also the beginning of a new chapter in her life.  I used the technique to highlight the yellow Beta Club sash and utilized the green card stock to represent the color of the gown.  Two more pages and the album will be complete.  Thanks for stopping by :)

Road Trip

One of my favorite things is going on a road trip...the best are the spur of the moment ones, when you grab just what you need, stuff it in a bag, and are off on an adventure.  That is the inspiration for my card.

I started by using a tag with tissue tape that I had rejected from a previous project. I used Spiced Marmalade, Picked Raspberry and Mowed Lawn Distress Ink for the background. I used Tim Holtz's technique to create a rust effect with his Distress Embossing Powder on the Mini Old Jalopy die and around the edges of the card.  I utilized  Tim's Compass Coin and Game Spinner to guide my jalopy across the map stamped tag and attached all to a background of hunter green cardstock and a kraft card,  I look forward to my next road trip...who knows where it will take me.

Tim Holtz 12 Tags of 2014-September

I am running down to the wire as usual...:)  I had the majority of my tag completed last week and then the daily grind of life got in the way.

I tried twice to achieve the "faded layers" effect that Tim so wonderfully demonstrated in his tutorial.  My first problem is that I don't own any real "light" alcohol ink colors.  My first attempt was with Latte and the Burlap stencil...not too bad, but I was not moved...so I set it aside for a later project.  My second attempt was with Butterscotch and the bubble stencil...probably still too dark for the technique, but I loved the color and decided to go with it.  If you squint you can see the faded bubbles in the center of the tag.  I chose to use Tim's balloon stamp and various remnant rubs focusing on life's adventures.  I made my two strips of alcohol ink color combinations and cut out birds by free hand.  I used alcohol ink alone to create the smeared effect on the birds and then set them in flight in a rainbow pattern on my tag.

CC3C #11 Effect Powders

I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to participate this go around.  I searched the local craft stores for Tim's Distress Powders...to no avail.  I placed an order with this week's challenge sponsor Inspiration Emporium and they got my order to me lickety-split.  Of course, I am speaking about the Compendium of Curiosities Challenge hosted by Linda Ledbetter and celebrating Volume III of the book by the same name by Tim Holtz.  My tag celebrates my favorite season and I loved how the technique highlighted in this challenged, Effect Powders, on page 52, complimented the fall colors.
